These are usually Westminster Chimes, Whittington Chimes and St. Michaels Chimes. Triple Chime Clocks take at least twice as many Chime rods of different pitches to create the different melodies.
How many chimes should a grandfather clock have?
Generally a grandfather clock (longcase clock) will chime once on the half hour and the number of hours on the hour. Some will also chime on the quarters, half and the hour, 1 chime on 1/4 past, 2 on half hour, 3 on the quarter to, and the number of hours on the hour.
How many chains should a grandfather clock have?
Chain-driven grandfather clocks have three chains, with a weight on one end of each chain. Each chain is responsible for a particular function of the clock. One is for time, another is for the hour chime, and the final one is for the quarter chime.
